The World Day of Alzheimer’s disease is a series of events initiated by the International Alzheimer’s Societyin 1994 and endorsed by the World Health Organization on the 21st September each year. Their aim is to raise awareness of the danger of spread and suppression of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, the need to dispel misunderstandings and social unity, to improve the conditions of people with the illness.
The disease was first described by Alois Alzheimer Bavarian neurologist in 1907. Alzheimer’s is a disease of old age, a neurodegenerative disorder associated with shrinking thinking and cognitive functions, dementia, behavioral change and rapid biological degradation. With the deterioration of mental capabilities, normal daily living and self-sufficiency will also be impossible for the patient.
