Computed tomography scan uses X ray to create cross-sectional pictures of the body. Contrary to the beginning today’s advanced tecnology allows the physicians to make a diagnosis on the score of the specifically detailed and sharp 3 dimensional images.

CT scan – from the brain to the whole body

The very first scanner was able to take a relatively detailed, but blurry picture of the patient’s brain only. It was an epoch-making method that facilitated the rapid diagnosis regarding a suspected frontal lobe tumour in 1971. Four years later the first whole-body CT scanner came out. Since this innovation the radiologists have been able to interpret very detailed images of any part of the body.

The CT scan is used for

  • Detecting and monitoring diseases and conditions (cancer, heart diseases, lung nodules, etc.)
  • Finding the cause of a sudden pain with unknown origin in the body
  • Determining the location of the tumour, infection or blood clot (brain tumour, appendicitis, etc.)
  • Diagnose muscle and bone disorders
  • Recognizing internal injuries and internal bleeding
  • Planning surgery on the grounds of the test results
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the treatments and surgeries
  • Assessing the results of the operation (organ transplants, gastric bypass, etc.)

The benefits of the CT scan

CT scan is one of the fastest and most efficient diagnostic methods to reveal the source of the problem in the body, with special regard to the early detection of diseases and rapid diagnosis. It is quick and painless, with a very low risk because of the advanced scanning technology and a minimal dose of radiation.
