Parkinson’s disease

11-04-2017

This year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of James Parkinson’s book. The book with the title “An essay on the shaking Palsy” was the first time anyone writing about this disease, which was named after its author, James Parkinson.

Since that time every year on the 11th of April -his birthday – we celebrate the international day of Parkinson’s disease.

There are more than six million sufferers from all around the world, which is more prevalent among men than women.

When someone’s affected by Parkinson’s disease the neurons in their brain – which produce the chemical called dopamine –are damaged or completely gone. Thus, they can’t forward the signals from the brain properly, leading to the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

Neurologists can diagnose this disease with the help of MRI or CT scans.
