World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day

31-05-2017

World Health Organization (WHO) dedicated the 31st of May every year to remind the public about the harmful effects of tobacco use: it’s called World No Tobacco Day (WNTD).

Every year WHO picks a different theme for the day which is now: Tobacco – a threat to development. They aim to achieve this goal with global cooperation, campaigns and promotion. As the poster says “Say no to tobacco: Protect health, reduce poverty and promote development” smoking and buying tobacco products harms more than just our health.

Say no to tobacco

We all know how bad smoking actually is for health. More than 7 million people die annually from it.
It causes cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and even cancer if used long-term. However less people know that in order to grow and harvest tobacco we need to deforest new areas, and the manufacturing of tobacco produces 2 million tonnes of waste –every year.
